Hooray for good deals. Boo for those not triggering correctly and requiring escalation to enforce. This has happened a number of times, though most typically with online purchase portals. In this instances, a really good Chase offer seems to have slipped identification. Thankfully online messaging portal means I’m likely able to resolve without picking up the phone or wasting *too much* of my own time.
The promotion
20% off gas, up to $6 back. That’s a pretty beefy discount, on top of the base earn of 2x IHG points. No big gotchas or asterisks. Expiration date of 2/28 (the screenshot to the right is the promotion for this month, showing 3/31 instead.)
The issue
My strong hunch is that they’re looking at posted date (when the transaction is finalized and appears on your account/bill) rather than transaction date. My posted date is 3/1, transaction date is 2/27. In my experience Chase Offers typically start showing “processing” within a day, followed up by an email confirmation, so I knew something was up pretty quickly.

Path forward
Rather than just be annoyed and sit back ($6 is nominal, but I’d rather not be short!) I shot Chase a message through their secure portal and asked them to remediate. Hopefully this helps me avoid a phone call and still gets me the outcome I’m looking for: a crisp $5 and a wrinkled old $1 bill. I’m going to be double annoyed if a phone call is needed here for such a trivial amount.
The real lesson here is to stay on top of any promotions you have. They’re usually executed correctly, but certainly not always.
