I’m a sucker for a good deal, and the only thing I like more than ONE good deal is TWO good deals stacked on top of each other. Ultimately these me helped score a mega discount on a big, special purchase. Stacked together, these make a really big difference in the cost, reducing the total price from over $1,500 to under $1,000. What made this possible?
- Black Friday Discount
- Rakuten Cashback
- Credit Card Rewards
The Purchase – Ring Concierge. Great company and high quality items. We are repeat customers as they have some nice pieces. The jewelry itself is a special present for my very deserving wife. $1,498 item pre-discount, pre-taxes, shipping, etc. Certainly no small purchase.
The Discounts – In total, this made for $449.40 off from the Black Friday Sale (30% of item price), $125.83 back from Rakuten Cash Back portal (12% of post-discount item price), and $29.39 back from BofA Premium Rewards Card (2.625% of purchase price.) The math is a bit more complex as the discount in purchase price also means there was less sales tax (as the cost was lower).

Ultimately this means the total (after-discounts and cash back) was $964.30 for a total pre-discount retail cost of $1,595.88. $631.58 or 39.6% off. Not bad.
What are the takeaways here?
Take advantage of the big sales, especially around Black Friday. If you have a big purchase, hunt for that extra discount for merchant purchase portals (check out Cashbackmonitor for a good comparison), and make sure you have a good, high-earning rewards card.
