Somehow the world has made it one more rotation around the sun in largely one piece. I am confident this new year will be chock full of exciting opportunities and new outrageous promotions to take advantage of. But let us not forget about one of the best, constantly changing parts of the many credit cards out there. This is somewhat hassle-filled but outrageously worthwhile rotating categories.
There are four big-bank rotating cards worth considering
- Chase Freedom – bank-selected 5% categories, capped at $1,500 spend/quarter
- Discover It – bank-selected 5% categories, capped at $1,500 spend/quarter
- Citi Dividend – bank-selected 5% categories (card is no longer opened for new accounts), capped at $6,000 spend/year
- US Bank Cash Plus – cardholder-selected 5% categories, capped at $2,000 spend/quarter
This quarter has some good, non-overlapping categories.
- Chase Freedom – 5% Dining, Norwegian Cruises, American Heart Association
- Discover It – 5% Grocery Stores, Wholesale Clubs, and Select Streaming Services
- Citi Dividend – 5% Amazon and Select Streaming Services
- US Bank Cash Plus – Pick two of (Fast food | Home utilities | TV, internet and streaming | Department stores | Cell phone | Electronic stores | Sporting goods | Furniture stores | Movie theaters | Ground transportation | Gyms/fitness centers | Select clothing stores)
While are MANY cards with enhanced earn in categories, the 5% enhanced earn from rotating categories are effectively as good as it gets. There’s some trash in here (Norwegian Cruises, huh?) but on the whole, certainly some of these are worth taking advantage of. Unsurprisingly, my strategy is use the cards exclusively for the bonuses. You should too.
