Somehow we made it. And in making it, we’ve got a range of new quarter-only promotional enhanced earn to take advantage of. No stunning categories or amazing new products worth highlighting (though I added the Citi Custom Cash below, as it’s effectively rotating)
There are four big-bank rotating cards worth considering
- Chase Freedom – bank-selected 5% categories, capped at $1,500 spend/quarter
- Discover It – bank-selected 5% categories, capped at $1,500 spend/quarter
- Citi Dividend – bank-selected 5% categories (card is no longer opened for new accounts), capped at $6,000 spend/year
- Citi Custom Cash – auto-selected 5x category based on top spend usage, capped at $500 spend/month (comparable to $1,500/quarter)
- US Bank Cash Plus – cardholder-selected 5% categories, capped at $2,000 spend/quarter
This quarter has some decent, non-overlapping categories.
- Chase Freedom – 5%/5x at Amazon, Whole Foods Market, Chase TravelĀ and Feeding America
- Discover It – 5% at Restaurants & Home Improvement Stores
- Citi Dividend – 5% at Citi Travel & Grocery Stores
- Citi Custom Cash – 5% a one of Restaurants, Gas stations, Grocery Stores, Select Travel, Select Transit, Select Streaming Services, Drugstores, Home Improvement Stores, Fitness Clubs, or Live Entertainment
- US Bank Cash Plus – Pick two of (Fast food | Home utilities | TV, internet and streaming | Department stores | Cell phone | Electronic stores | Sporting goods | Furniture stores | Movie theaters | Ground transportation | Gyms/fitness centers | Select clothing stores) plus one 2% earn category
My take is this quarter really is nothing special
Chase Freedom isn’t valuable as the Amazon card already offers 5% always at Amazon & Whole Foods. Discover It and Citi Dividend offers are fine, but there are other options for those categories already. As always, the Citi Custom Cash and US Bank Cash Plus are most versatile and worth having.
