I love a good wellness tracker. I’m basically bonded to my Garmin Epix watch, and the morning reports do bring me a strange, bleary-eyed joy. I have no need for a second wellness tracking device (and one more thing to charge!) But what I do enjoy greatly is a good discount, and a quick flip for some free points and a little folding cash. This post I’ll outline the annual AMEX Platinum benefit, and my experience taking advantage for a quick ebay flip.
TLDR — $200 off AMEX benefit helped me score $40.05 in profit on the item sale, plus 370 AMEX Membership Rewards points. Not a game changer, but a decent partial offset of the big AMEX Platinum annual fee.
The American Express Benefit

Truly as simple as it sounds. $200 off the purchase of an Oura Ring from their website. This stacks with any promotions/discounts they may be offering. The cheapest eligible item (gift cards and accessories do not count for this benefit) is the Oura Ring 4 for $349. This is before any tax and shipping (item can be picked up at Best Buy for no cost!)
Like other American Express credits, this does not discount the purchase price itself, but appears as a statement credit shortly after the transaction posts.
After a little research on pricing, I bought the item with an explicit intent to resell immediately

- Using a little Google Gemini, I found the highest average sale price for a New In Box Oura Ring was ~$240 for size 8 silver ring (I spot checked this for completed listings and found the takeaway generally reasonable)
- I figured if I was unable to score a profitable sale, I would cancel/refund the ebay transaction, and return the item (zero downside)
- I purchased the item and immediately listed on ebay for a 7-day listing
In the end, I netted $40.05 on the item sale itself, and scored 370 Membership Rewards points for future use. Certainly not going to make me rich, but moderately worth the effort.
- Item Cost:
- Purchase Price: $369.94
- Less Discount: $169.94 ($200 discount)
- Item Resale Proceeds:
- Total ebay Sale: $267.04 (includes tax and shipping) — $242.50 for the item alone
- Tax & Fees: $51.27
- Shipping: $5.78
- Total less Taxes, Fees, Shipping: $209.99
- Net Profit:
- $209.99 – $169.94 = $40.04 on the sale
- $369.94 x 1% = 370 Membership Rewards Points
Now if you actually want the ring to use, this is a stellar benefit. Particularly as it is eligible for FSA reimbursement, too!
