Month-end recap: $1,442 of rewards, freebies, and flights for April 2026

Good month for rewards, though my activities trailed down lots through the month as there was some international travel and generally lighter spend than typical. Even bigger than the rewards earned this month is those that are coming, as there are some big new cards and redemptions that are ramping up for May!

The goal of this monthly series is a quick pulse on the variety and value of rewards for staying active in credit card/loyalty gaming.

Rewards ($911 in April)

New Truist card sign up bonus is a good chunk of this (~$330). Much of the rest is an ongoing “deposit match” for USDG crypto balances, where I threw a pile of money from high yield savings to take advantage of 5% match paid over 24-weeks (12 payments, bi-weekly).

Offers ($157 in March)

Very low activity here this month. The bulk of this is a big refund (not really an “offer”, but better than being out $120+ for a purchase that’s not returnable!)

Perks ($145 in March)

Two core things at play here. First is the AMEX Platinum $100 quarterly Resy credit. So outrageously easy to use, the dinner date out with the wife was almost fully covered. I did have the big annual fee due here ($895), so that stings a bit, but I’m getting my money’s worth. The second is I found a good way to eat up the 4% BILT cash. Very easy gift card redemption for $10 Walgreens & Doordash!

Loyalty Redemption ($228 in April)

I’ve long been hunting a flight back from California, but the options and redemptions have been weak. I don’t love the flight I booked, but I do like the price. $5.60 + 10,000 American Airlines miles for a round-trip flight, paid options in the low-$200’s range. I’m hoping to score a better schedule, but this is good for now.
